FORT WAYNE – A congressman from Howe, Indiana is under scrutiny from the US House Ethics Committee.
A press release from the committee states that it is reviewing a complaint about Representative Marlin Stutzman, alleging that he took campaign funds for personal use.
The Office of Congressional Ethics found that there was a “substantial reason to believe” that Stutzman used more than $1,500 in campaign funds to cover the costs for a personal family trip to California in August 2015.
Stutzman repaid his campaign for the trip, adding that he was attending campaign meetings on the trip and called the OCE’s report “absurd.”
He leaves office on January 2, 2017.
