Friends of the North Webster Community Public Library Coffee with Friends
April 29 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Join the Friends of the North Webster Community Public Library for a fascinating talk on butterflies with speaker Cindy Gackenheimer. This “Coffee with Friends” event will be on April 29 at 2PM at the North Webster Community Public Library, 110 E. North St. in North Webster.
Cindy’s interest in Butterflies began when she started a perennial garden to cover up a new septic field (LOL). The first year of the garden she got monarch caterpillars on a plant that she didn’t even realize was in the milkweed family. Since then, she has focused her garden on plants that either are pollinators that feed butterflies or host plants which are plants where Butterflies lay their eggs. She uses her background as a pharmacist, along with her degrees in biology and chemistry to work with monarch citizen science projects to do testing for diseases and tagging monarchs through several universities. Cindy has found that “the Beauty of a garden and the Miracle of metamorphosis brings us together and brings peace in these tumultuous times.”
The event is free, but for those who wish, a free will collection will be available. All proceeds will be donated in Cindy’s name to go to Monarchwatch.org (https://www.monarchwatch.org/) to help preserve butterfly habitat. There will also be free seed packets available courtesy of the North Webster Library seed packet program to help preserve your own butterfly habitat.
