Monday’s extreme cold made for difficult conditions for firefighters battling a blaze in Bremen.
The fire was reported around 2:30 Monday afternoon in a barn along Dogwood Road, according to the South Bend Tribune.
Units from eight different departments took turns out in the cold putting out the flames, to ensure as little exposure to the frigid temperatures as possible.
A school bus was brought in to act as a warming station for firefighters, who also battled the effects the cold was having on their equipment, including water that kept freezing in the nozzle, along with hoses, valves, and other issues that can interrupt the pumps.
Firefighters were on the scene for several hours because the building was made of tin, and therefore more challenging to extinguish.
