WARSAW — Downtown Warsaw is getting a new flower shop.
It’s been eight to ten years since the downtown had a store that specialized in flowers and Rachel Marose hopes to capitalize on a large workforce in the downtown and beyond.
Marose got her start in the business while managing the flower department at Martin’s Supermarket in Warsaw.
“I just took mental notes of stuff that I would and wouldn’t do in my own shop and decided that’s what I wanted to do,” she said.
In recent years, she’s been selling flowers out of her house near Oswego.
She initially wanted to have a store in the Village at Winona, but said rents and the lack of available space led her to consider downtown Warsaw.
“That didn’t work out and this place just kind of fell into my lap,” she said.
Despite the change in plans, she stuck with her original store name, Village Florist.
Her new store is located next to Glaser & Ebbs Law Firm at 111 E. Market St.
The location offers an ample supply of potential customers with hundreds and hundreds of workers from Zimmer Biomet and Lake City Bank within just a few blocks.
The downtown continues to see an influx of new and altered businesses in recent months.
“The way the downtown’s growing again, it’s nice to be part of that,” she said.
She said they’ll be focusing on offering fresh cut flowers and bouquets and will be ready to accommodate those who need flowers for weddings and funerals.
A new delivery van arrived Tuesday afternoon.
She said she realizes parking can be a challenge along Market Street, but they will rely heavily on deliveries.
The business will host a ribbon cutting with the Kosciusko chamber of Commerce at 10 a.m. Thursday when the store officially opens.
