An Elkhart County family is raising money to get a service dog for a family member who was struck by lightning in 2006. Katelyn Toth was struck by lightning at the age of 12 and now, her family is looking to raise $6,000 to obtain a service dog to assist Kate. The strike caused Kate to have a brain injury which impacts her speech and motor skills. The family said a service dog will help Kate interact more with people. The Elkhart Truth reports a fundraiser is set for Saturday, 4 to 8 p.m, at the American Legion on U.S. 12 in Edwardsburg. The event will include a pasta dinner, cash bar, raffles, a 50/50 drawing and a silent auction. The family is asking for a minimum $10 donation.
