Gasoline just keeps getting cheaper. The average pump price has dropped to $1.97 a gallon. The last time it's been below the $2 level was in March of 2009. Triple A says prices on New Year's Day 2015 were down 13 cents in the past seven days. Gas is 42 percent cheaper now than it was one year ago, when the average price per gallon was $3.37. The price is down 9 cents a gallon so far this week from Sunday's average of $2.06 a gallon. The auto club says the cost of crude oil accounts for about two-thirds of the cost of gasoline, and crude prices have been steadily dropping.
