Voices Against Injustice is putting on a gathering Tuesday for George Floyd and to unveil a new food pantry.

Voices Against Injustice formed in July 2020 and recently became a nonprofit organization. The organization secretary, Zoie Lamar, said the event begins at 5 p.m. today at the courthouse lawn.

The event will feature speakers and will be used to collect donations for the group’s new food pantry that will be placed behind the law office of Travis McConnell.

The food pantry, Lamar said, is similar to those that are out by Forward Indiana. That group had cabinets placed in several locations in Allen County and earlier this year placed one in Leesburg.

The cabinet will be stocked with dry and non-perishable food and organizers also hope to include toiletries and other basic essential needs, Lamar said.

This event at the courthouse lawn is not an open-microphone situation but is more to hear from scheduled speakers and give Kosciusko County residents a chance to talk amongst each other “because it’s been a rough year,” Lamar said.

A candle lighting will be held at dusk.

The group will accept cash donations at the event, and if anyone wants to donate digitally, they need to contact Lamar by email at voicesagainstinjustice20@gmail.com.
