ELKHART — A 14-year-old Goshen boy has died from his injuries in a crash early Saturday morning in northeastern Elkhart County.

According to a crash report from the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just after 4:45 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 120 and County Road 35, which is north of Middlebury, according to a report from WNDU.

Multiple witnesses told police the boy was heading south on County Road 35 in a 2023 Honda XR150LE dirt bike when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection and hit a trailer that was being pulled by another vehicle heading west on State Road 120.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office did not identify the boy in its report, but Middlebury Community Schools said in a Facebook post on Saturday afternoon that an incoming freshman at Northridge High School was tragically killed in an accident on Saturday morning.

The school district identified the boy as Aidin Mathieu, but officials did not go into specifics. The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office tells WNDU 16 News Now they’ve only investigated one deadly crash in the county in the last 48 hours.
