The name Redskins, once again, the subject of debate during the Goshen High School board meeting. During Monday's meeting, More than a dozen members of the public spoke about the name, Redskins. The debate, about evenly divided from members of the public from those who addressed the board. The Elkhart Truth reports a volunteer coordinator for the school district, and a Goshen City Council member, were among the Goshen High School graduates who visited the meeting to express support. But a representative with the Citizen Potawatomi Nation said that although the mascot may have started as a show of respect for Native American heritage, it is also associated with the removal of one's hair or scalp. He said the term could promote racism. A statement released by the school board earlier this month stated they wish they had a solution that would please everyone, but they don't and, at this time, their mascot is Redskins.
