Goshen High School’s Nickname “Redskins” To Change

The debate is over. The Goshen School Board has voted to retire the Redskins mascot name effective in January. The board's 5 to 2 vote in favor for change came after members heard more than three hours of public comment with dozens of people speaking for and against change. The debate about the “Redskins” mascot resurfaced about a month ago by two community members who asked the board to consider changing the name, because they consider it a racial slur. There was no decision made on a new name. It's expected that the community and Goshen High School students will be able to take part in that process.
