Goshen Community Schools are about to change the way they evaluate the performance of some students. At a meeting this week, the board discussed a number of issues, including a police dog for the school resource officer, a start date for upcoming construction, and changes to some student assessments. The Elkhart Truth is reporting that the assessment changes come on the heels of suggestions from teachers and parents, and will include what's described as a “more natural” documentation process for evaulating Kindergarteners. The district also hopes to put together a curriculum committee, where teachers would meet quarterly to discuss potential issues.
