The Grace College community is in mourning following the passing of the college’s third president, Dr. Homer Kent, Jr.
The former president died on Wednesday at the age of 94 years old. Kent served as president from 1976 to 1986. Current president, Dr. Bill Katip, says Kent helped Grace earn accreditation, which helped pave the way for new programs and other offerings, and also saw the highest seminary enrollment that Grace has seen to this day.
During his tenure at Grace, Kent was a prolific writer and a respected New Testament theologian and scholar. From 1967 to 1973, Kent served as a translator for the New International Version, and he has authored 15 books, many of them in-depth, exhaustive commentaries on New Testament books.
A visitation will be held on Sunday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, with a memorial service on Monday at 11 AM at the MOCC.
