SYRACUSE – A grenade was found Monday near a Goodwill donation box in Syracuse.
The Syracuse Police Department was alerted to a possible explosive device lying in the grass near 203 E. Pickwick Drive shortly after 11:30 a.m., according to our partners at WNDU.
Police blocked the street and ordered business and home owners to stay indoors.
The Elkhart City Bomb Squad used a robot to retrieve the grenade and place it into a containment vessel. They believe the grenade was inert, but they won’t be certain until further investigation and destruction of the device.
Police don’t know where the device came from.
The area was cleared and deemed safe shortly after 1:30 p.m.
