It's a guilty plea from an Elkhart man arrested last year after he caused an explosion while cooking methamphetamine at his home. 49 year-old Randolph Sargent admitted attempting to deal meth within 1,000 feet from a family housing complex. He was arrested last July after police found him in the 400 block of Beardsley Avenue suffering from burns on his arms and breathing problems. He was taken to the hospital, where he told police he was injured from a chemical reaction while trying to cook up meth in his apartment. Sargent's sentencing hearing is tentively scheduled for mid-August. He faces up to 50 years in prson.
