Harrison Elementary will receive a grant of $1,000 on Monday, December 9 following a successful application by Aimee Hagg for an award from the One School at a Time combined project between WNDU and Martin’s Super Markets.
At 9:30 am, WNDU and Martin’s will present a check for $1,000 toward books for Harrison Elementary’s Boomerang Backpacks.
Aimee Hagg explained, “Many of our Harrison students do not have books at home to read over the summer and school breaks. We are trying to help with that by providing each student who receives a Boomerang Backpack one book once a month. The book is chosen based upon the child’s grade level. This book is theirs to keep. By the end of the school year, that child will then have 10 books of their own.”
Adding books to the Boomerang Backpack program for the past two years has made a lasting difference. Families have expressed their gratitude for these books that are also read to siblings.
The $1,000 grant funds 10 books throughout the year for 100 students. Harrison Elementary teachers are excited to get books into the hands, homes, and hearts of their students.
Warsaw Community Schools would like to thank all teachers who go above and beyond to give of their time and talents to reach out and bring community support to their schools. We appreciate WNDU and Martin’s Super Markets for their investment in our students.
