Two area women were hospitalized after a head-on collision Wednesday evening. According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department crash report, officers responded to the crash around 6:40 p.m. Wednesday on South Ind. 15 near the intersection of Rosewood Drive in Warsaw. The report states a vehicle driven by Noma J. McPeak, 44, West Swan Court, Claypool, was traveling south on Ind. 15 when she crossed the center line and turned in front of a second vehicle, driven by Debbie J. Whybrew, 40, Poplar Street, Silver Lake. Whybrew told officers she attempted to swerve to avoid the collision but was unable to, and McPeak struck her head-on. McPeak’s vehicle then struck a metal utility pole. McPeak told police she could not remember what had happened to cause the accident and when an officer asked if she had been drinking, she responded, “Oh yeah, I’ve been drinking,” the report states. McPeak was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, to be treated for head injuries and Whybrew was transported via EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital to be treated for minor bleeding to her lower arm and elbow.
Damage was estimated at between $25,000 and $50,000.
