Health Leaders Urging Hoosiers To Check Mumps Vaccination Records Due To Outbreak

Indiana health leaders are telling Hoosiers to check their vaccination records amid an outbreak of mumps that has sickened at least 65 people across the state.

The State Department of Health says the confirmed cases of mumps includes 24 at Butler University, 18 at I-U Bloomington and four each at Purdue in West Lafayette and at I-U-P-U-I.

Fifteen other cases unrelated to the campus outbreaks have been confirmed in central Indiana. The State Health Commissioner says college campuses can be breeding grounds for illnesses because students are in frequent close contact with each other.
