A Notre Dame spokesman says the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in the Hobby Lobby case is an important and encouraging victory for religious liberty. Notre Dame Vice President for Public Affairs and Communications Paul Browne says the university's attorneys still are assessing Monday's decision to determine how it affects its own lawsuit. The U.S. 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in February upheld a federal judge's ruling that denied Notre Dame's request for a preliminary injunction against the birth control mandate. The Supreme Court ruled in the Hobby lobby case that some corporations can hold religious objections that allow them to opt out of the new health law requirement that they cover contraceptives for women.
