Strong words aimed at Governor Pence from Indiana House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath after learning that Camp Summit boot camp in LaPorte County will close. Pelath points out Pence and Republican leaders want to eliminate 70 LaPorte County jobs, despite what he called their “bloated budget surplus”. He calls the planned closing “crazy”. He goes on to say the closure means nothing to an administration that has no problems with shuttling those youths to other locations around the state, and telling the staff they can either uproot their families or find other jobs. He also says the closure will wreak havoc on federal guidelines covering staffing at correctional facilities, lead to less rehabilitation and more wayward lives.
