Thursday afternoon saw hundreds of bomb threats reported across the country.
Those threats resulted in investigations at news outlets, schools, government buildings, banks, libraries, businesses, and a number of local media stations and police departments.
One of those outlets was South Bend’s own WNDU studios, which were evacuated.
A number of police departments across the country quickly dismissed many of the threats as hoaxes, however all were taken seriously as a precaution. Police in Grand Rapids, Michigan reported a “rampant hoax email” making bomb threats across the country. The perpetrators were reportedly demanding payment in Bitcoin.
The NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau said they were monitoring multiple bomb threats sent electronically to various locations throughout the city, according to NBC News.
Also, Sheriff’s Officers in Elkhart County responded to a similar bomb threat email at the County Administration Building on North Second Street in Goshen. Again, after a thorough search, no devices or suspicious packages were found.
