Longtime Warsaw Community High School teacher Lynnette Markley received an honory degree recently for her involvement in FFA.
Purdue University served as the host for the 86th Indiana FFA State Convention June 15 to 18.
In celebration of members’ involvement within Indiana FFA, “Go All Out” served as the theme for the annual convention of the over 11,000 Indiana FFA members.
Each year the organization bestows one or several honorary degrees amongst farmers, school superintendents, principals, members of boards of education, chapter advisors, teachers, staff members in agricultural education, business people and others who are helping to advance agricultural education and the FFA and who have rendered outstanding service. Those nominated may be elected to honorary membership by a majority vote of the members present at any regular meeting or convention.
Lynnette Markley is the wife of Brent Markley and mother to Colton, Cameron and Cailey Markley. She has been teaching for 20 years, 19 of those years at Warsaw Community High School, according to a press release from the National FFA Organization.
“Markley dedicates countless hours every day for the benefit of her students. In those 19 years she has had many national, state and district winners. Some highlights include: National Horse Judging in 2004, 16 state proficiency winners, three National final for proficiency winners, State Star Farmer, two state agribusiness star finalist, multiple state winning demonstrations in various areas, three years of state winning quiz bowl teams and State winning leadership ambassador. Markley’s passion for students has led to having a total of five state officers and six candidates,” the release states.
Markley also was named 2014 Indiana ACTE Teacher of the Year for her commitment and involvement to Agriculture Education. While being a busy wife, mother and ag teacher, she continues to serve others, according to the release. She is an active member of Career and Technical Education organization and Indiana Agricultural Educators. Markley also serves Marshall County as a 4-H leader and 4-H council member.
“Indiana FFA was extremely honored to bestow the honorary degree upon Mrs. Lynnette Markley,” the release states.
The National FFA Organization is a national youth organization of 610,240 student members as part of 7,665 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education, the release states. The National FFA Organization operates under a federal charter granted by the 81st United States Congress and it is a part of public instruction in agriculture. The U.S. Department of Education provides leadership and helps set direction for FFA as a service to state and local agricultural education programs.
