After a leaked draft of the Indiana Republican Party’s 2018 Platform, Kyle Hupfer, the chairman of the Indiana Republican Party, decided to distribute the drafted platform before the Indiana Republican Convention on Saturday, June 8-9 in Evansville.
“Here is a direct link to the proposed platform,” Hupfer said. “No editorializing, no pontificating, no bias or manipulation, as we are sure some will do. Here you just have the words themselves in black and white.”
The latest draft of the new platform removes language supporting marriage between a man and a woman.
If approved, the updated platform would read:
We support traditional families with a mother and father, blended families, grandparents, guardians, single parents and all loving adults who successfully raise and nurture children to reach their full potential every day.
“I do think it reflects a view we should be supportive of,” Hupfer told the Indy Star.
The current platform reads as follows:
We believe that strong families, based on marriage between a man and a woman, are the foundation of society. We also recognize that some families are much more diverse and we support the blended families, grandparents, guardians and loving adults who successfully raise and nurture children to reach their full potential every day.
Delegates will vote on the updated draft Saturday, June 9 at the upcoming 2018 Indiana Republican Party State Convention.
In regards to the leak, Hupfer says, it’s very unfortunate. “That’s a significant breach of trust, of course, and one that puts all Indiana Republicans in a very unfair position.”
