(Indiana Senate Minority Leader Tim Lanane)
The leader of Indiana’s state Senate Democrats is calling for new laws extending driving privileges and in-state college tuition rates to people living in the country illegally. Senate Minority Tim Lanane of Anderson called on the Legislature Monday to pass a trio of bills during the legislative session that begins in January.
Lanane said the measures would demonstrate that Indiana is a welcoming place.
One proposal would allow immigrant Indiana high school graduates with at least three years of school in Indiana to receive significantly lower in-state college tuition rates. Another would allow people living in the country illegally to obtain driving permits.
A third proposal would allow people in the country illegally to get dialysis treatment from Medicaid before it became a life-and-death matter.
