The head of the state's largest teachers union is urging Governor Mike Pence to support freezing the state's education accountability system for one year because of changes in the ISTEP test. State Superintendent Glenda Ritz made a similar call two months ago, and this one comes from Teresa Meredith, president of the Indiana State Teachers Association. She wants the delay because the ISTEP changed to match the state's new standards. Governor Pence has resisted halting accountability in the past and a statement from his office says he's waiting for a recommendation on a moratorium from the state board of education.
