Industrial plant induced snow surprises Allen County residents

It’s not that meteorologists got it wrong when they didn’t predict snow for the Allen County area this week.

It’s that the snow appeared from thin air– literally.

The U.S. National Weather Service of Northern Indiana says steam from a handful of industrial plants caused the snow Tuesday night.

Experts say the conditions were just right to turn the steam into snow, and drop it across the area. This process is called “industrial plant induced snow”.

Most residents in the area only saw a dusting of snow, but were surprised to see any at all.
