The family of a South Bend Police Officer who was injured in a bomb disposal training accident last week is giving an update on his condition.
The brother-in-law of Sergeant Harvey Mills tells WNDU that Mills is recovering well. He’s had five surgeries so far, and is expected to have three or four more after the explosion caused fractures, burns, shrapnel wounds, and a broken arm.
South Bend Police confirm Sergeant Mills is in high spirits and that officers have been going to visit him regularly.
The investigation into the accident that caused Mills’ injuries is ongoing.
