Jacqueline “Jackie” Johnson, age 95, formerly of Michigan, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021 at Lutheran Life Villages of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on February 17, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, Jackie was the daughter of Robert and Helen (Lesperance) Erwin.
Jackie was busy raising three boys as Burke made his living as a salesman. They met in high school in Farmington, Mi and fell in love. Burke served in the United States Navy in PT Boats during WWII before settling down and raising a family. As the boys got older, Jackie went to work at Sears Roebuck in Fort Wayne. She worked for over 20 years, where she sold women’s wear and later ran the Customer Service department before retiring. Her and Burke made their summer home in New Era Mi, a year-round home where they spent the remainder of their years enjoying the 10 acres of woods close to the beach of Lake Michigan.
Jackie was an avid hiker, loved the great outdoors and dogs of all kinds. She was a friend to everyone and never met a stranger she didn’t like. She was caring and was very much a giving person. She loved her church; Shelby Congregational in Shelby, Mi and volunteered often wherever and whenever she could. Jackie was very independent and lived alone in the woods for 18 years after Burke passed. She stayed in touch with all her friends and family around the country by phone all the time.
Jackie is survived by sons, Eric (Cheryl) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Reg (Judy) Johnson of Angola, and Michael (Toni) Johnson of Grand Rapids, MI; 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren . She was preceded in passing by her loving husband, Burke N. Johnson; brother Robert Erwin, sister Beryl Fregolle and her parents Robert and Helen Erwin.
