WARSAW — City Councilman Jeff Grose has announced his intentions to run for mayor of Warsaw.
The former Indiana Mr. Basketball recipient who has had a long career in education and on city council, announced his intentions in a news release Tuesday – one day after mayor Joe Thallemer announced he would not seek a fourth therm.
Grose, a Republican, plans to formally file election paperwork later this week.
“Serving on the common council has been a rewarding experience and an absolute privilege,” Grose said in a statement.
“If elected Mayor of Warsaw, this knowledge will greatly assist my efforts to provide sound leadership for our city and the ability to successfully work with other public and private leaders in Warsaw and our surrounding communities,” he said.
Grose is serving in his sixth term on city council and represents District 1. He also sits on the city plan commission, board of works, and the redevelopment commission.
Grose has been a teacher for 34 years. He is currently the social studies department
chair at Warsaw Community High School and is a part-time political science instructor for
Grace College.
If elected, Grose said his priorities will include “continued infrastructure improvements,
excellent service from our public works, police, and fire departments, and short and long-term community planning efforts.”
“I will also strive to encourage other leaders in our county to work together, establishing a common vision, in order to be more efficient with our tax dollars,” he said.
He was part of a state high school basketball championship with Warsaw and was named Mr. Basketball in 1985.
He’s a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. He and his wife, Rachel, have four children and they are expecting their first grandchild in March.
Grose plans to formally file at the county justice building later this week. His campaign will be managed by Dr. Steven Hollar with George Clemens will serve as committee treasurer.
