Times Union – Kosciusko Community Hospital gave $5,000 to support the 2016 Fat and Skinny Tire Festival as a Premier Sponsor.
The Fat and Skinny Festival is a major annual festival in Kosciusko County with bicycle activities centralized in Winona Lake and downtown Warsaw. The festival begins May 20 at 6 p.m. and closes May 22 at 6 p.m.
Lutheran EMS Kosciusko will be present during the race times should emergency medical care be needed, according to an announcement from KCH.
“The Fat & Skinny Tire Fest has been about community from day one. It’s a celebration of our community and the blessings we have,” Greg Demopoulos, Kosciusko County Velo club president and Fat and Skinny co-founder and co-director said in the announcement. “One of those blessings, of course, are the amazing partners we get to work with. An event the size of this, that has been around for more than a decade, can’t continue without great partners, and we’re honored that KCH is one of them. Their support, encouragement and sharing of resources should make all of us proud when thousands come to enjoy the festival and its rippling benefits every May.”
The fest is a weekend centered around bringing cycling enthusiasts and participants together to share the enjoyment of cycling and the health-related benefits it provides. The aim is to emphasize an attitude on wellness, enjoyment and the options available for all ages of cycling enthusiasts, the announcement states.
Events this year include: BMX stunt show and Silly Bike Contest in downtown Warsaw May 20 at 7:45 p.m.; Historical Winona Bike Tour at 1 and 3 p.m. May 21; and the Ortho Cup corporate Challenge Cruiser Race starting at 1:50 p.m. May 22. For more information, go to www.fatandskinnytirefest.com
Kirk Ray, CEO of Lutheran Health Network KCH, said in the announcement, “As a healthcare organization, Lutheran Health Network KCH promotes taking care of one’s wellness from an early age. The Fat and Skinny Tire Festival shares this vision as all ages participate in outdoor physical activity during the event. We are happy to be a part of this well-planned initiative.”
