Kosciusko Community Hospital will open an orthopedic center July 13 to offer joint replacement procedures as well as physical therapy afterward.
Described as a “destination total joint replacement center” in the hospital’s announcement, the KCH Orthopedic Center will “provide patients with a unique hospital experience, one that promotes wellness and offers patients the opportunity on a dedicated unit with healthy patients just like them.”
The center, on the hospital’s third floor, will offer all patients a private room as well as a lounge area for daily group physical therapy and other activities. Patients also will receive special amenities during their stay.
“Because joint replacement surgery is an elective procedure, we want to offer an extraordinary patient experience so patients will choose our hospital as the destination for their surgery,” the announcement states.
Key features of the center will include a best practices model for hip and knee replacement combined with techniques to decrease post-operative pain and nausea; a redesigned environment and standardized protocols to help early ambulation, rapid discharge and fast recovery; and a comprehensive system to measure clinical, functional and operational outcomes, and benchmarks to compare outcomes with hospitals nationally. Features also will include a dedicated inpatient unit that combines educational, medical and rehabilitation services with private rooms; and a staffing model that combines education, personal coaching and clinical service.
Dr. Leamon Williams will be head physician for the center, for a team of orthopedic surgeons including doctors Tom Krizmanich, Dean Jansen and Jeff Hartzell. Krisa Harding, registered nurse, will be joint care coordinator.
