The Fort Wayne Komets announced a one-year affiliation with the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights Tuesday.
The Komets will serve as the ECHL affiliate for Vegas, while the Chicago Wolves will continue as the AHL affiliate for the team.
“Today is an exciting day in Komet land,” Fort Wayne Komets General Manager David Franke said. “The affiliation with the Vegas Golden Knights and the Chicago Wolves is now official. We hope that this is mutually beneficial for all three franchises. A big thank you to Andrew Lugerner of the Knights and Wendell Young, general manager of the Wolves. They both made this agreement possible. Also, I’d like to thank Gerard Gallant for his positive recommendation. This is a great opportunity for our players to get a call-up to the Wolves during the course of the 2018-19 season.”
Gallant, a former Komets assistant, is the head coach for Vegas. He led the Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural NHL season, with the team falling to the Washington Capitals in five games.
The Komets’ home opener for the 2018-19 season is on Oct. 20 against the Kalamazoo Wings.
