The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted the 2nd annual Law Enforcement Field Day on October 29 and November 5.
The sheriff’s office offers this training free of charge to a number of local police and sheriff’s departments. Officers who attended the event received 10 hours of in-service training.
The Field Day event was held at the Seymour-Midwest property, south of Warsaw. Seymour-Midwest has been a partner in training with Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, and other emergency services, for over 6 years.
Officers received instruction on Emergency Vehicle Operation, Defensive Tactics, Firearms Scenarios, Domestic Violence Scenarios, Less-Lethal Weapons, Injured Officer/Subject rescue scenarios, Standard Field Sobriety Tests, Combat Tourniquets and Building Search Tactics. After completing each scenario, the officers’ actions were critiqued by the training staff, who noted both the positive actions taken as well as areas in need of improvement.
The training was scenario-based, placing officers in controlled situations that directly reflect incidents they may encounter during the course of a normal duty day. This year’s event was opened up to large and small departments from Kosciusko, Whitley, Wabash, Marshall, Fulton and Elkhart County.
Over 80 officers from 12 different police agencies participated in this year’s training, with instructors from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Winona Lake Police Department, Syracuse Police Department, Milford Police Department, Lutheran EMS and North Manchester Police Department.
