Kurt Kauffman, age 68 of Silver Lake and a longtime resident of the Kokomo area, passed away on February 16, 2023. Although he had been sick for several years, his passing was unexpected.
Born in Fort Wayne on May 23, 1954, Kurt was the son of the late Allen Cutler Kauffman and the late Marjorie Ruth (Barker) Kauffman. He spent his formative years and part of his adult life in Kokomo, moving to Kosciusko County in 1984.
Kurt was tenacious and a hard worker. He worked for Logan Stamping, Magnatech (formerly BW Manufacturing) and for Republic Services (formerly National Serv All) where he retired in 2010. Kurt was a maintenance technician and a mechanic. He could fix seamingly anything and was proud of his work.
Kurt loved cars and liked working on them – he especially liked Cadillacs. He had a gruff demeanor but was truly selfless; he would help anyone in need, sacrificing of his time and finances to do so.
Those who survive with memories to cherish include his partner of 43 years, Rex Boxell of Silver Lake; his partner of 16 years, Michael Mattingly; brother, Fritz (Kasey) Kauffman of Carmel and sister, Gretchen (Ron) Kramer of Tennessee. Also surviving is his close friend, Mike Kyler who was like a brother. He was preceded in passing by his parents and a partner, Wavie Bratcher Jr.
Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services is entrusted Kurt’s care. No public services are planned. His family is grieving privately.
