WARSAW — Lakeland Art Association has long hoped to find a new home, and on Friday, that dream will be realized.
That’s when Lakeland will open its new facility on South Buffalo Street just south of The Gathering Place and north of La Troje restaurant.
“It’s looking great. We’re getting the artwork on the walls,” said Melodie Koher, director of the association.
A grand opening and ribbon cutting with the Kociusko Chamber of Commerce is set for 5 p.m. Friday. The open house will continue until 8 p.m.
The new space will of course have room for a gallery and will be able to host painting classes a well as possibly a jewelry-making shop in the future.
“It is a monumental change,” she said. “We’re excited. We’re looking forward to this move.”
The group’s old location, a former two-story house on East Winona Avenue, has been home for the past eight years, but the group relied on small rooms to display art and was hampered by a parking lot that could only accommodate about four parking spaces.
The new gallery has one large display area as well as a basement.
Members of the association are excited
“We have already scheduled a watercolor class with Sherry Johnson and we have scheduled two Bob Ross-style classes with Laura Murphy,” Kohler said.
