Leesburg Town Council met Monday night and discussed both leaf and trash pickup schedules.
Jerry Schnitzius, of Advanced Disposal in Claypool, addressed the board and said trash pickup will again be rescheduled from Wednesday to Friday. Schnitzius met with the council last month and initially proposed trash pickup be rescheduled from Monday to Wednesday, but said Advanced Disposal will now pick it up on Fridays beginning Oct. 1.
The change in schedule will allow the company to pick up lighter bulk items left beside refuse containers.
Community members will be notified of the change via paper hangers attached to refuse containers.
The council also discussed a tentative leaf pickup scheduled for the approaching fall season. The town will begin pick-up Oct. 1, but will adjust as needed, and will cease pick-up by Dec. 1.
In other news, the council accepted a bid to repair two catch basins, one on the corner of Jefferson and Van Buren streets and one in front of Farmer State Bank. Butt & Timmons Construction, Syracuse, will perform the repairs for $4,410.
The council again discussed reviewing and codifying all of Leesburg’s ordinances to create an accessible code of ordinances and current body of law for the town. The council favors hiring American Legal Publishing Corp. to provide the service but will review the proposal and bring a motion to approve at October’s meeting.
The board also scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 19 to discuss the 2015 budget. While the budget looks solid, the board said it will be discussed at the hearing and will be brought to a vote at next month’s Oct. 13 meeting.
Lastly, the council discussed the burning of rubbish by Rico’s Landscape & Hardscape. The board said community members have issued complaints and the fire department has been called several times, so the council agreed to issue the business a citation.
