Leesburg Town Council met Monday night with a swift agenda.
A new truck battery will be purchased and bonuses are still being considered.
Street Commissioner Brandon McQueen said he was working Wednesday and around 3 a.m. his truck completely shut off. After being towed, it was discovered the issue with the truck was its battery. The board agreed to purchase another battery for the GMC truck to prevent future incidents.
McQueen said the rest of the equipment is working well and he has nearly seven tons of salt and sand left over. He did not have any ordinance violations to report, and said the town has once again been very cooperative by not parking in the streets.
The board reiterated that snow removal from any residential or business sidewalks is the responsibility of the property owner.
Board President Tom Moore said he will have more information about the possibility of including bonuses into the salary ordinance. He said bonuses allow rewarding good people and also helps maintain a budget. Once a salary is raised for an elected official, it can never be reduced.
“I think we need to explore this a little deeper before we say yes,” Moore said.
The board reminded the town that there is no parking allowed on any streets between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. Burning anything at anytime also is never permitted.
The next regular monthly board meeting is scheduled for March 9 at 6:30 p.m.
