The dry, windy conditions we are experiencing this fall are a concern to local fire officials.
Burket Fire Chief and President of the Kosciusko County Fire Association Kevin McSherry is asking everyone who is thinking about burning anything outside to think twice before they light that match.
McSherry says it’s important to check wind direction, wind speed and what burnable objects may be down-wind from any fire that’s started.
He says every fire department in the southern part of the county has responded to a runway brush fire this week.
He adds that there are still dried corn stocks and soybeans in the field waiting to be harvested, and fire spreads through them very quickly in the current conditions.
Fire fighters are hoping they can avoid being on a grass fire call when a house or other structure fire occurs.
