Lucille Martha Bowerman of Warsaw, Indiana passed away surrounded by her family at 7:03 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at Paddock Springs Assisted Living Facility in Warsaw at the age of 96.
She was born on April 8, 1926 in Riverdale, Illinois, one of six children born to Dorothea (Lotz) Wilkens and Martin Christopher Wilkens. On May 29, 1943 she married the love of her life, Lloyd D. Bowerman. They were blessed with 65 years of marriage before Lloyd passed away on January 20, 2009.
When Lloyd was called to serve during WWII, she was proud to have contributed to the war effort working at Acme Steel in South Chicago. She worked at OEC in Mentone, Indiana and especially enjoyed the fond memories she made working at Kraft Foods in Pennsylvania. Her favorite job during her life was simply being a mother and grandmother. Lucille was a great homemaker, she loved gardening, was an excellent seamstress, and enjoyed camping and traveling.
Lucille was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Warsaw. She started attending in 1957 and enjoyed the fellowship of her church and was a member of the Ladies Guild at Redeemer Lutheran. Lucille loved to sing in the choir and welcomed many new members to the church throughout her lifetime. She was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Mentone. She lived a long full life and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind three sons, Lloyd Bowerman (Warsaw, Indiana), Robert (Susan) Bowerman (Milford, Indiana), Bill (Jo Ann) Bowerman (Warsaw, Indiana) and one daughter, Linda (Robert) Hile (Warsaw, Indiana). Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Jeff Bowerman, Rick (Carla) Bowerman, Laura (Rhett) Mikel, Jake Bowerman, Cameron (Shannon) Williams, Casey (Diane) Williams, Mark Hile, David (Sherri) Hile and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, three brothers, two sisters, one granddaughter and her daughter-in-law.
Lucille’s life will be celebrated with a service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Bill Carney. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m.
