A LaPorte County man is recovering from injuries after a tree he was cutting down with a chainsaw fell on top of him. Sheriff's Deputies along with Springfield Township Firefighters and medics were called to the 8300 Block of County Road 600 West on Saturday where they found the 34-year-old man trapped underneath the tree. They tried to lift the tree off of him, but were unable to do so. So, they had to use more chainsaws to cut the tree into pieces. Crews were challenged by the distance from the road, about one-third of a mile as well as the muddy terrain. Several emergency vehicles became stuck and had to be pulled out by a wrecker. As for the victim, he suffered a serious leg injury and was rushed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend.
