EUCLID, Ohio – A man has been fatally shot during an impromptu anti-violence rally at a lakeside park in suburban Cleveland.
The Cuyahoga County medical examiner says 19-year-old Phillip Banks was killed when shots were fired during a Stop the Violence Beach Party on Sunday night in Euclid.
Police say there were as many as 300 people at the resident-organized event on the shore of Lake Erie. The target of the shooting is unknown. Banks was hit in the head and died later. A 12-year-old boy was shot in the back and was hospitalized.
Police are trying to determine if another shooting in the area later in the evening was related. A male was shot from across a street and hospitalized.
