Mentone Council President Responds To Deputy’s Resignation

Mentone Town Council President Tim Croy has provided a statement on the resignation of Deputy Terry Engstrand.
During the council meeting Monday night, members approved Engstrand’s resignation but did not provide a reason behind his resignation.
Jim Eads, town marshal, requested during the meeting to search for a replacement for Engstrand, but was told by the council there was not money in the budget for it.
Approximately 30 Mentone residents attended the meeting to show concern for not replacing the deputy and questioning why he resigned.
Today Croy released the following statement:
“Officer Terry Engstrand served on the Mentone Police Department from 2007 until he voluntarily resigned his post on Oct. 2, 2015. Officer Engstrand was a credit to the uniform and the Mentone Police Department throughout his employment.
“Since the Mentone Town Board meeting on Monday evening there have been too many rumors, misstatements and allegations made throughout the community regarding Officer Terry Engstrand and other matters.
“Regarding Officer Engstrand, attached is a letter of recommendation that is a part of his file and will be provided to any prospective employer.
“I, Tim Croy, on behalf of the Mentone Town Council wish to inform you that the town council has not had any discussion concerning the elimination of the Mentone Town Police Department. We believe the police department is very important to our town. While we consider and evaluate any future personnel for the police department let me assure we have complete confidence in Police Chief Jim Eads in protecting our community.
“In the meantime the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department has assured us they will work with Police Chief Eads in providing extra patrols as needed for the safety of the community.”
