Mentone Woman Arrested For Obstruction, False Info

Lying to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department got Heather M. Traster arrested Saturday afternoon.
Traster, 29, of 903 W. Osprey Drive, Mentone, was charged with obstruction of justice, a level 6 felony, and providing false information, a Class A misdemeanor.
KCSD responded to battery investigation June 7. Upon arrival, Traster provided officers with a videotaped statement that detailed a violent episode of physical assault that occurred just before they arrived.
She stated that James Hurd, the father of her infant son, had hit her, then choked her and pushed her down to the ground. Officers could see red marks on Traster that she alleged were caused by the assailant. She continued that the damage around the house also was caused by Hurd, who was not present at the time.
Hurd was charged June 11. Then on June 15, Traster sent a letter to Kosciusko County officials stating that she made up the story about Hurd. In the letter, she said, “I made up the story about him choking me and the baby being in the room.” She then apologized for the incident.
Traster later admitted under oath that she had intentionally lied to police to get even with Hurd for a different matter. Traster was booked into Kosciusko county Jail on a $5,250 bond.
