A Merrillville police officer shot in the head while responding to a call about an evicted tenant has died. 24-year-old officer Nickolaus Schultz was pronounced dead Sunday morning at an Oak Lawn hospital. He was shot Friday night. The suspected shooter, 33-year-old Michael Hrnciar died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Schultz and other officers were responding to a call about an evicted tenant who had apparently moved back into the condo. Hrnciar had been evicted back in July due to foreclosure. Pence says he was saddened to learn of the passing of 24-year-old officer Nickolaus Schultz, who was shot in the head Friday while responding to a call about an evicted tenant.
