A man in the small northern Miami County town of Macy was arrested Thursday morning after police responded to a reported battery and possible hostage situation.
Officers responded to the home on North Allen Street around 12:50 AM, where they found the homeowner, 36-year old Jess Sampson, had barricaded himself inside with his 14-year old son.
Prior to officers’ arrival, Sampson had allegedly battered his adult girlfriend, his 17 year-old son, and a 19 year-old family friend. The trio was able to leave the residence, but Sampson purportedly would not allow his 14-year-old son to leave the home.
After Sampson failed to respond to police negotiators and a search warrant was acquired, a state police SWAT team entered the residence and took Sampson into custody.
During a search of Sampson’s residence, officers allegedly found methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
Sampson was taken to the Miami County jail and faces charges for criminal confinement, drug possession and battery.
