Expelled: a student at the Seymour Middle School Sixth Grade Center who hit a button to activate the school’s active shooter alarm.
Principal Linda Ludeman was disciplining a student in her office Wednesday afternoon when she had to step out for a moment, reports WBIW.
While Principal Ludeman was out of the room, the student found a button beneath a plastic case on the wall of the office. Not knowing what the button did, the student pressed it and triggered the alarm, says the Seymour Police Department.
The button is usually hidden but was in plain sight because the office is being remodeled, reports WBIW.
The student pushed the button at 3:04 p.m., and the first police officer was at the school in less than two minutes, according to SPD. Nineteen officers responded to the false alarm, including members of the police department’s SWAT team.
The school district and police department have not identified the student, who was expelled for triggering the alarm.
