FREMONT TOWNSHIP (Network Indiana) — A Steuben County man, who was missing for five days, was found dead in the garage of a house that caught fire earlier this week. Police say Daniel Sheets, 36, was reported missing on Friday, July 23.
According to police, Sheets was last seen at a house in Fremont Township that caught fire Saturday, July 24. During the investigation, police found a dead person in the garage of the house. An autopsy revealed the dead body was Sheets.
Police say the fire neither caused nor contributed to his death. Steven Restemayer, 30, was found in a camper near the house.
Restemayer was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant for failure to appear on a charge of carrying a handgun without a license. He is considered a person of interest in Sheets’ death.
