LEESBURG – Indiana Conservation Officers and the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department are continuing to search for the possible Tippecanoe Lake drowning victim, who has been identified as John J. Forbes Sr., 70, Chicago.
According to a press release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, officers are continuing to utilize side scan sonar to image the bottom of the lake.
The rough lake conditions and overall depth of Tippecanoe Lake have made the search difficult and lengthy. It is believed that the victim could be in depths greater than 100 feet.
According to the preliminary investigation, Forbes was swimming on Tippecanoe Lake Friday from a Tri-Toon boat with his wife, son and family friend when he went under the water and never resurfaced. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time of his disappearance, the release states.
Kosciusko County Central Dispatch received a 911 call around 5:15 p.m. Friday about the possible drowning.
Conservation Officers remind everyone to wear a coast guard approved life jacket every time you’re on or near the water.
