ALLEN COUNTY – Allen County is now getting federal money to fight drug trafficking.
The county is one of 13 counties across 12 states added to the nationwide High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas program, the White House Office of National Drug Council Police announced Tuesday.
This means police in Allen Co. will receive money for the equipment and manpower needed to go after drug traffickers and dismantle their operations.
Fort Wayne Police Dept. Narcotics Captain Kevin Hunter told WANE-TV that the money will be used to create a task force, buy new equipment, and pay officers for more overtime.
Also participating in the HIDTA program are Lake, LaPorte, Marion, and Porter Counties.
