Motorist killed in early morning accident near LIttle Crow Lofts

WARSAW — A woman was killed in a two-vehicle collision early Tuesday morning in Warsaw in which one of the drivers fled the scene.

The accident happened around 3:19 a.m., near the corner of Detroit Street and Winona Avenue near Little Crow Lofts.

Upon arrival, first responders found a 2021 Jeep overturned in the roadway and a 2006 Subaru B9 Tribeca with extensive damage to the driver’s side that came to rest close to Jefferson Street. 

A woman who was driving the Jeep was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner.  

The driver of the Subaru fled the scene before first responders arrived.

While there are no known witnesses to the accident, preliminary evidence suggests the Jeep had been driving southbound on SR 15 when the driver struck the northbound Subaru.  

Registration to the Jeep is from Canada. 

The coroner’s office is in the process of making the notification. The identity of the victim will be held until proper notification has been made. 

SR 15 near the accident was shut down until about 5:15 a.m.  

Warsaw Police Department was assisted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, FACT, Winona Lake Police, Mentone Police, Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, Lutheran EMS, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, and the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office.  The Warsaw Police Department Detective Division is currently working on leads on the suspect who fled the scene of a fatal accident.  Anyone with information or surveillance video that could help in this investigation is asked to call (574) 385-2206.
