MudLOVE donated its 1 millionth week of clean water through its partnership with Water for Good.
According to a news release from MUDLOVE, giving back is a cornerstone of MudLOVE’s mission. Every bracelet or mug purchased provides one week of clean water to someone in the Central African Republic.
While the average American uses up to 100 gallons of water a day, the average Central African only uses five gallons, the release states. Unfortunately, the reality is their water is often dirty and carries deadly diseases.
Luke Wright, founder and CEO of MudLOVE, chose to make his new business a tool to disrupt this pattern. He partnered with Water for Good, a local nonprofit tackling water poverty in the Central African Republic.
In the Central African Republic, the cost of providing one week of clean water for a week is 10 cents, or $5 a year. Through Water for Good’s strategy, the goal is that villages will receive water “for good.”
“When I started MudLOVE in 2009, I had no idea what it would become,” Luke said. “Thanks to God and the unwavering support of this community we were able to give over $450,000 to Water for Good in the last 10 years equalling over 1 million weeks of clean water. One bracelet at a time, one mug at a time, one week of water at a time, it’s ending a cycle of poverty and hopelessness in one of the poorest countries in the world. If you have a mug or bracelet at home, you made this happen. Thank you.”
Olivia Lehman, associate director of development at Water for Good, said, “Of the 4.6 million people living in CAR, many lack access to clean drinking water. Women are responsible for water collection and have an average round trip collection time of seven hours. All this for water that can kill them. In fact, 115 people in Africa die every hour from diseases linked to contaminated water. Forty-three percent of those deaths are children under the age of 5.”
She also said, “Ten years ago, we launched a plan to reach every man, woman, and child by 2030. MudLOVE is making a deep impact on this goal and is saving thousands of lives in the process. We’ve enjoyed working hand in hand with MudLOVE and deeply appreciate the consistency and family aspect of our organization partnerships. Not only has their partnership been valuable to the people in the Central African Republic, but we’ve also enjoyed getting to know the people behind the mud.”
MudLOVE thanked everyone who has been a part of their journey for the past 10 years.
